Welcome to the Weird and Wonderful World of CTRL-A

The first full week of CTRL-A events is upon us, to be met with much excitement and general merriment. If you are new to CTRL-A, or are interested in learning more about who we are and what we do (in a broader sense), look to our FAQ for all of those sweet details.

Firstly, I wish to inform you of the events that will occur this week:

  • Monday Meeting: Monday, September 16, 6PM, MC 4058. Regular meetings tend not to be as long or involved as the first one, but they are the place to be if you are interested in learning how the club operates behind the scenes, and perhaps even volunteering to help out with stuff (such as Clubs Days, or setting up/taking down equipment at shows.
  • Project Night: Wednesday, September 18, 6PM, SLC 2134. Project nights are the CTRL-A general socialization event. These are a great opportunity to meet and hang out with fellow members of the club in a fun, no-pressure, social setting. Feel free to bring activities such as assignments, games, or any projects you’re working on.
  • Clubs Days: Thursday, September 19 and Friday, September 20, 10AM to 3PM, SLC Great Hall. As is FEDS tradition, Clubs Days will be happening. As is CTRL-A tradition, we will be there, advertising the existence of our club to appeal to prospective members. If you already know about us but have some questions, want to buy membership, or just want to hang out and say hi, come find our table! We are available to satisfy all of these needs! We also need volunteers to help run the table, so please volunteer at the meeting if this is something that interests you.
  • Show 1: Friday, September 20, 4:30PM to 10PM and Saturday, September 21, 2:30PM to 9PM, AL 116. Our first show arrives stylishly. The full show schedule can be found here. Memberships will be for sale at the event. We operate a concession stand where you can buy snacks and drinks at your leisure, and we sell pizza during the dinner break. Our activities coordinator may have something planned to do during the dinner break as well. Of course, the main attraction is the anime, of which there is plenty. You may discover a great series that you would have never thought to watch on your own. And when all is said and done, you can discuss the highlights of the show with fellow anime fans. A great, sociable event for all types of anime fans. Don’t miss it!
  • Games Night: Friday, September 20, 4:30PM to 11:30PM, AL 211. Games nights are getting a bit of a makeover. In a joint venture with UW Gamers, we will be running games nights every Friday, anime show or not, to satisfy your gaming needs. Could be any kind of game. Video games, card games, board games, who knows? You can bring your own games and invite people to play with you. This runs concurrently (though a little bit later than) the first show day, so if you’re here for the anime, we recommend missing this in favour of show 1. However, if you prefer playing games to watching anime, this night of games may be for you. It’s upstairs in the same building as the show, so you could go back and forth if maybe one of the shows on the schedule doesn’t interest you.

Ordinarily, this is where my news posts would end, but I’ve got some more information to relay to you.
