Jan 14 I’ve Waited Long Enough For This
It’s that time of year again. The beginning time of year, where one of three possible terms of the year begins. Why is this relevant? Why, because when a term starts, CTRL-A starts anew with roughly a dozen weeks of great events to distract you from the ever-looming threat of education.
For all folks new to the club, welcome. It perhaps needs not be said, but in choosing CTRL-A, you are a great person and have made an excellent choice that will positively affect your university experience. If you don’t believe me, then allow me to convince you! There will be a new post on this site once a week until the term is over, with details on all of the upcoming events for that week. If you desire more general info on each of our regular events, please refer to our FAQ. (Specifically the question “So what does CTRL-A do, exactly?”, but it’s all a good read.)
Upcoming Events
- Monday Meeting – Monday, January 14, 6PM, RCH 306. Our regular Monday meeting becomes regular with the second meeting of the term. For anyone who was at the first meeting, that is a poor example of how meetings usually go. Our regular weekly meetings feature discussion on whatever topics the president deems important for that week. If there’s something you want to bring to our attention, you can bring it up at the meeting or send an email directly to the president. This is also your chance to volunteer to help with Clubs Days and show 1, so if you’re looking for ways to get involved, there’s no better time.
- Project Night – Wednesday, January 16, 6PM, SLC 3103. One floor higher than before! A great opportunity to get an early start on assignments, or to work on any side projects you may have, such as designing a board game or work on costumes. Feel free to just hang out and play games as well. A fun social environment.
- Clubs Days – Thursday, January 17 and Friday, January 18, 10AM to 3PM, SLC Great Hall. Once every term, the Federation of Students hosts “Clubs and Societies’ Days”, a sort of trade show where the various clubs and societies of the University of Waterloo get together and appeal to visitors in an effort to gain members. As is custom, CTRL-A will be in attendance. Since you’re reading this, you already know something about us, but feel free to come by and ask us questions, or just say hello. If you also feel like helping us, we would greatly appreciate it. You can volunteer to help out at the Monday meeting.
- Anime Show 1 – Friday, January 18, 4:30PM to 10PM and Saturday, January 19, 2:30PM to 9PM, AL 116. Our pièce de résistance, the reason we call ourselves the Club That Really Likes Anime (we really do), our first anime show of the term! This is one of four 2-day shows that we will have over the course of the term. The schedule for the show is available here, for your perusal. We also operate a concession stand where drinks and snacks can be purchased, and will sell pizza during the dinner break on both days. This is not to be missed.
